Join the ELCA Lutherans of the Southwest California Synod as they observe the 500th anniversary of the Reformation with a festival service of Holy Communion on Saturday, June 3 at 10 am – 11:30 am. The preacher is the Rev. Dr. Ray Pickett, new rector of Pacific Lutheran Theological Seminary. The Rev. Dr. Guy Erwin, synod bishop, will preside.
This special worship service is part of the 2017 Synod Assembly, but you don’t need to be part of the Assembly to come! Everyone from the SWCA Synod – and visitors to the synod territory – are invited to join us for our “official” Reformation service.
Event Location: CLU Samuelson Chapel, 60 West Olsen Rd, Thousand Oaks, California 91360.
Please note that attendees will not be able to park at Samuelson Chapel – please park at the Gilbert Sports and Fitness Center’s parking lot north of the chapel across South Olsen Road. The Samuelson Chapel is a short walk from the Gilbert parking lot, and transportation will be available for those who need it.
Join us for lunch afterwards! Lunch for non-assembly members is $15, payable by cash or check at the event. The deadline to register for lunch is Monday, May 29. Non-assembly members MUST register for lunch in advance; extra lunches will not be available. If you are a registered synod assembly member, you DO NOT need to register or pay an additional fee for lunch.

The service will feature a great diversity of music from many cultures and countries; the organist is Mr. Joseph Peeples of California Lutheran University.
A special choir is being formed for this event under the leadership of Mr. Howard Sonstegard: an open rehearsal is scheduled for 9:00 a.m, just before the service. The piece that will be sung is “God Is Our Strength” by Ruth Elaine Schram, available from Lorenz Publishing Company, or e-mail Robin Lujan (email@example.com) at the synod office for a copy.
